This project aims to donate 50% of its revenue to help preserve natural resources in the Yucatan Peninsula. It is estimated that approximately 10,000 water pits and caves known as cenotes interconect in this ancient mayan lands. To achieve this, 50% of the NFTs are being donated to help the communities and families that look after the cenotes. The first project is the donation of two eco-dry restrooms in a pilot cenote called Santa Cruz, located in the far east of the state of Yucatan.

Since the Yucatan Peninsula is built on top of hard rock and minerals, it is challenging to find proper sewage systems in cities and populated areas, not to mention small and isolated settlements. We have decided that an easy yet efficient way to help out is to improve our restroom systems. By opting for dry and more ecological restrooms, we promote mineral and nutrient reusability while reducing waste.

The art used for this project is based on a mystical creature called the Alux, here to look over Mother Nature and the natural resources in the area. The base character was created by Sergio Neri, a famous ilustrator and collaborator in the cartoon “La gruta del Alux”. Other props and different traits were created collaboratively by various artists from all around the globe. The Alux team will care for the cenotes by donating eco-friendly restrooms and providing any other assistance required, one cenote at a time.

About

Cenotes del Alux

In dec. 2021 we decided to create a collection of NFT´s to donate part of the proceedings towards water care, specifically to cenotes or water pits of the area.

“Our team is led by various collaborators who want to donate while creating a cool NFT project. From digital artists drawing the art, to musicians creating our own original soundtrack, or photographers and videographers recording the project, this NFT aims to be a unique art piece and a donation to better our ecosystem.”

Where we want to go

It has been more than 2 years from the start of this project and we are finally able to show for it. We have taken our time drawing out unique props and perfecting the art as well as to think about how we can help in the most efficient way and actually build our first prototype.
